Catalonia Smart Health Ecosystem Meeting, collaborative innovation in social care and healthcare.

In the first block of talks, “Catalonia, pioneering European region in Digital Health and active ageing”, chaired by Dr. Jordi Martinez, Director for Innovation of Fundació TicSalut, Dr. Garcia Cuyàs analysed the ICT strategy of the Health Department, the integration of information for personal care, the Plan of Health and Systems Interoperability, stressing how ICTs are already transforming the Catalan health model, and how they will continue to do so.

In his talk, Dr. Albert Ledesma from PIAISS talked about chronic disease and healthcare integration and highlighted the need to identify and create a proactive integral health model controlled by the territorial organisations. Mr. Joan Cornet, director of Mobile World Capital Barcelona completed the first block with a summary of the importance of drawing on the potential of new technologies and Big Data in the healthcare area, and stressed the need to establish standards to be able to share the information between professionals, patients…and the other players involved.

The second block of talks, “Innovative projects of/with Catalonia” chaired by Mr. Pol Pérez, Director of Information Systems of the Catalan Health Institute, was broadly participated:

Elena Torrente, Digital Health Coordinator for DKV Assegurances; Josep Mª Grego, Director of Development at Mútua Terrassa; Joe Killen, Director of International Business Development for the Tunstall Group; Oliver Harrison, Vice-president of Healthway; David Fernández, Director of Business Development for SARquavitae; Pedro Omedas, Director of the SPECS Technical research Group at the Pompeu Fabra University; Enric Llopis, Projects Director for Fundació TicSalut; Felip Miralles, Head of R&D+i for eHealth in Eurecat; Marc Giró, Sales Manager of FirmaProfesional and Pol Pérez himself.

Llopis focused his talk on the new Digital Health platform and the repository of health and social welfare apps, the Marketplace, which will be appearing in the weeks to come. In the fifteen minutes of his presentation, Llopis highlighted the importance of being able to classify and validate the health apps in order to optimise their use.

Dr. Garcia Cuyàs concluded the meeting by considering the need for the projects to take the leap to implementation, as “Catalonia has great projects in ICT and Health”.
