10 years of raising awareness of cybersecurity among European citizens

European Cybersecurity Month will be held in October. For the tenth consecutive year, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), the European Commission and the member states will commemorate this month. The goal is to create awareness and promote cybersecurity among citizens and organisations by providing up-to-date information and publicising good practices in the digital environment.

Phishing and ransomware, this year’s topics

Each year, European Cybersecurity Month focuses on a specific topic. In 2022, the chosen topics were:

  • Phishing: identity fraud performed through an e-mail or text message that seeks to obtain information about credit cards, banking passwords and the like.
  • Ransomware: a type of malicious computer program that restricts access to certain parts or files in the infected system, and demands a ransom in exchange for removing the restriction.
