The fifth congressional edition of the XPatient Barcelona Congressis taking place virtually the 29th and 30th of September. An approach to new technological solutions and successful use cases arised during the sanitary crisis of the Covid-19.

The sanitary crisis caused by the coronavirus has speeded up the digitalisation of healthcare, a fact that favours “an empowered expert patient and some capable doctors to take decisions more informed and precisely, diminishing the time devoted at routine tasks and displacements”, according to the director of Eurecat’s eHealth Unit, Felip Miralles.

From the point of view of the experience of the patient, “the use of these techs favours that the contact with the healthcare system increases”, remarks Miralles.

According to the director of the Program of Attention at the Cronicitat of the Clinical Hospital, the doctor Joan Escarrabill, “during these weeks an unusual fact has come to light because of the confinement of all the society during a period of time very long. The experiences of patients are very important to learn how to mitigate the impact of these situations. The first lesson is not making assumptions.”

“Putting the patient at the centre of the assistance forces us to valuing also the situation of technological risk and this impacts on the non face-to-face assistance. Meetings like the XPatient open the doors to new projects. Consequently we focus on technology by respecting the security and privacy of the patient”, affirms the director of the TIC Salut Social, Josuè Sallent.

The XPatient Barcelona Congress is an event organised by the technological centre Eurecat, Barcelona’s Hospital Clínic and the TIC Salut Social Foundation, with the support of the community of practical XPA Barcelona (Experience of the Patient).
