Joan Guanyabens defends in Finland a digital health model based on data, interoperability and governance

The Director of the TIC Salut i Social Foundation, Joan Guanyabens, presided over the inaugural conference of the Nordic Conference on Digital Health and Wireless Solutions, held on June 16 in Oulu, Finland. In his speech, entitled ‘The Digital Health Strategy for Catalonia Towards the European Health Data Space‘, he presented Catalonia’s vision to move towards a digital health model based on data, more interoperable and centered on people.

During his speech, Guanyabens highlighted the challenges still facing the Catalan health system, with 67 hospitals, more than 300 primary care centers and about thirty different hospital information systems that often do not communicate with each other. As he explained, this fragmentation limits the system’s ability to take advantage of the full potential of the data and offer a better experience to both professionals and citizens.

To respond to this challenge, he presented Catalonia’s digital strategy, aimed at promoting integrated and person-centered care, based on an information systems model that systematically uses health data to create value-added services, foster innovation and develop a collaboration model based on open standards.

In this context, Guanyabens defended an open platform architecture that allows overcoming the current fragmentation, favoring interoperability and facilitating the safe sharing of data between organizations and professionals. He also noted that digital transformation is not just a technological issue, but requires governance, collaboration and a shared vision among all the actors in the system.

The Nordic Conference on Digital Health and Wireless Solutions brings together experts from around the world in digital health, health technology and wireless communications to share knowledge and explore the latest innovations in the sector.
