Study on the maturity of artificial intelligence in the Catalan Health System

The TIC Salut Social Foundation has carried out a study to find out the degree of implementation and maturity of artificial intelligence algorithms in the Catalan Health System (SISCAT). The preliminary results were presented on 19 May at an online meeting with the heads of SISCAT’s Information Systems.

The study was conducted through survey of 80 managers of SISCAT’s Information Systems. There was a set of 20 questions on the different levels of artificial intelligence adoption in their respective centres.

This work is part of the actions under the Programme for the Promotion and Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Catalan Health System. The aim is to create an enabling environment for the development and implementation of AI solutions to make the Catalan health system as efficient as possible. Its central focus is improving the health of citizens, who are at the core of the system.

The Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia and CatSalut are leading the adoption of artificial intelligence in the Catalan Health System and have commissioned the ICT Social Health Foundation to design the AI in Health strategy.

Next steps

The foundation’s team is working on analysing the answers to a new survey, this time sent to research centres in Catalonia. The results of this survey, as well as the main results of the study on the maturity of artificial intelligence in the Catalan Health System, will be presented publicly in the coming months at a conference with the stakeholders involved.
