The TIC Salut Social Foundation is participating this week in the European interoperability Plugathon held in Brussels, within the framework of the IHE-Europe Connectathon Week, a technical validation environment where European projects test solutions aligned with the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
This environment enables the testing of real clinical data exchange use cases —such as the International Patient Summary (IPS)— using European standards based on HL7 FHIR.
In this context, the Foundation has achieved new milestones in the European projects xShare and i2X, focused on the secure and standardized exchange of clinical information through the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF).
The Foundation has recently developed and piloted an industrial label to certify the quality and technological robustness of products that obtain this certification. Within the xShare project, the La Meva Salut application has obtained in Brussels the Silver category of this European label, which certifies an advanced level of maturity in terms of data exchange and interoperability.
This recognition was achieved after successfully validating several key functionalities, such as the download and upload of the International Patient Summary (IPS) in HL7 FHIR format. This functionality has been implemented through the joint work of the TIC Salut Social Foundation and iSalus, as participants in the project.
These functionalities enable the generation, consultation, and sharing of health data in an interoperable way at the European level.
Regarding the i2X project, Clínica Girona has also obtained the Silver category label, in this case for the functionality of downloading the IPS in FHIR format.
The i2X project works on real-world clinical data exchange scenarios, validating that systems are capable of managing health information in accordance with European standards.
The xShare Industry Labels are an emerging mechanism to certify the level of technical readiness of digital health solutions to operate with the EEHRxF, with different maturity levels.
Currently, the Silver level validates the ability of systems to use and generate interoperable data. The model is still evolving within European projects, with the perspective of advancing towards higher levels such as the Gold Label. The Gold category will be tested for the first time in Catalonia. The ongoing work points to the possibility of achieving this level in the coming years, targeting the 2026 for cases as Clínica Girona.
The Plugathon is consolidating itself as a key space for technical validation prior to deployment and scaling, facilitating collaboration between public administrations, technology providers and healthcare organisations across Europe.
In the case of the xShare and i2X projects, these tests contribute to advancing interoperable digital services and preparing healthcare systems for data exchange at a European scale, in line with EHDS objectives.
