The ATHIKA project began in January of this year. Funded by the ERASMUS+ program (European Commission – EAC-A05-2017), it focuses on the design and deployment of multidisciplinary training programs. ATHIKA’s objective is to improve the skills of healthcare professionals and engineers in order to facilitate the application of new technologies in the sector.
The consortium consists of three higher education institutions: La Salle – Universitat Ramon Llull, University of Tartu and The University of the West of Scotland; Five companies: Technopolis Group (consultants), Mcrit (consultants), Pharmatics Limited (research and development), Technosens Evolution (software development) and Kaunas STP (technology park).
The Fundació TIC Salut Social will participate in identifying the challenges and needs of the health sector as well employing its experience in eHealth and mHealth, to provide professionals with the necessary expertise to develop eHealth solutions that meet the current challenges facing the sector.
New ICT systems in the health sector require improved collaboration between healthcare professionals, patients and technology experts to ensure that the results are positive and not counter-productive for the patient. ATHIKA seeks to improve this link by training professionals from different backgrounds to acquire competencies in innovative technologies and healthcare ethics. By taking advantage of the multidisciplinary nature of the consortium, these training programs will involve academics, public health organizations, SMEs, start-ups, entrepreneurs and business consultants. There will be workshops and symposia involving all the groups concerned in order to exchange results, knowledge and any lessons learned.
ATHIKA’s specific objectives are to:
The next steps are the definition of the different needs and challenges in the area of health and welfare, while analysing the major difficulties encountered by professionals when developing new solutions. The results obtained from the interaction between the different groups involved will be evaluated, with a view to creating solutions to optimize the collaboration in subsequent workshops and courses.
