TicSalut signs an agreement with UniversalDoctor to improve multilingual communication in Catalan health centres

"The agreement with UniversalDoctor enables Catalan health centres to use this technological platform under advantageous conditions and gives them an effective support tool to communication in different languages which complements the figure of the intercultural mediator", assures Dr. Francesc García Cuyàs, director of the Fundació TicSalut and general coordinator for ICT of the Health Department. 

This initiative to facilitate the use of the UniversalDoctor Speaker application available for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android, will benefit both the general healthcare service (medicine, nursing and administration) and the patients of different origins attended in Catalonia, as it will help to avoid situations of misunderstanding and favour the establishment of good diagnoses and medical treatments.

In fact, the project was born within the context of 'glocal medicine' in which treating and understanding patients from anywhere in the world is now a reality and a need of modern society.

For this reason, the application which is the object of the agreement includes translations and audios in thirteen languages concerning administrative questions, medical records, symptomatology, diagnosis or treatment in different clinical scenarios and for any point of the relationship between the healthcare professional and the patient. Today courses are offered in English, French, German, Portuguese, Romanian, Moroccan Arabic, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Urdu, Polish, Dutch and, in the future, Russian will be reinforced and the Arabic characteristic of the Near East will be brought in.
            

"The good reception of the platform in Primary Attention and its experience and expansion internationally bear witness to its reliability", says Dr. García Cuyàs. In fact in 2008 the application was incorporated in the Catalan Health Institute. "UniversalDoctor Speaker is a tool that we believe can be very useful for the professionals. Furthermore, thanks to this agreement which has been signed, the centres that acquire it will have all the technical and training support they need for its implementation", guarantees Dr. Serrano, the founder of the project.
