In 2014, TicSalut created the Observatory of mHealth apps and projects as a place for presenting all experiences and health apps in Spain and abroad.

With the article that follows, the mHealth.cat office aims to highlight the growth of the apps specialising in cardiology, family and community medicine, health and sport and public health/epidemiology/prevention that the Observatory of Health Apps and Projects obtained in 2016, with 10 new inclusions in each speciality.

This growth reveals considerable interest amongst the health centres in creating applications focused on specific medical problems, while the more general applications are created by developers in other more technological areas.

The mHealth Office invites all developers and those acquainted with health and social apps to bring their apps to the Observatory, using the following form.

Furthermore, we want to highlight a news item that was published at the end of the year by the ARA newspaper on the use of wearables and the fall in their sales in 2016.

The number of available apps has increased, but it seems that wearable purchases are not following the same trend. The lack of battery autonomy, the functions similar to those of a smartphone and their high prices are factors which mean that, for the moment, these devices have not achieved their expected success.

In any case, this is obviously a rising market with good future perspectives, something that is shown by their sales in the world, with almost 34 million units sold in the last quarter of 2016.
