m-Resist is the name of the first European mobile health project dedicated to developing a therapeutic programme for people with treatment resistant schizophrenia. The aim is to involve the patients and their carers in the control of the disease, and to take steps forward in understanding it by studying predictive models.
During the Wednesday afternoon meeting Jesus Berdún, Fundació TicSalut project manager, presented the project to those attending the Mobile World Congress in the Cibernàrium, in the MediaTIC Building in Barcelona. The project is funded by the European Commission and is currently in the development phase of the technology proposed in the design.
Up and running since 1 January 2015, in the first year of the project, different activities were performed with the users in order to collect requirements and needs. Based on the results of these activities, the development of different technological tools was proposed including a mobile application, the use of wearables, decision support systems, predictive models and data analysis.
In this sense, Berdún stressed the importance of integrating the joint work of health professionals and technologists while considering the aspects related to usability and user acceptance of these kinds of tools for self-management of the disease.
“It is very important that we should and disseminate these kinds of projects not only internationally, but also locally. These kinds of meetings allow us to share experiences and the lessons we have learnt while assessing the joint work between healthcare professionals, technologists and end users”, Berdún concluded.
The first project newsletter (February) was recently published with important information on the project. Anyone interested can register on the following link.
