HL7 International in collaboration with Audacious Inquiry, have started developing an HL7 FHIR based implementaion guidelines. This tool will support the struggle against coronavirus automating the transmission and enabling a real time data exchange identified among the sanitary organisations and the public sanitary authorities.

The aim of the publication of these guidelines is to foster the creation of a community interested in fast development of integrations that can support the data communications of patients among the hospitals in time of crisis.

Basic healthcare patients data is needed in crisis moments such as:

  1. Number of cases at local, regional and national stages.
  2. Beds availiable.
  3. Other resoursce:
    • Clinical staff.
    • Drugs.

    • Medical resources (breathers, N95 masks,…).
    • Supplies (cleanup, masks,…).

The guidelines developers have established the following force points:

  • Not to duplicate the existent efforts.
  • To work with current IT healthcare deployed products.
  • The needed uplift enhancing a simple and fast healthcare information transfer.
  • To provide a high ROI.

Proposal of the following FHIR outputs for data exchange to be used:

Terminology also has an important part in the Implementation guidelines described as:

  • Type of bed location: surgery, pediatrics,…
  • Bed’s classification: available, into use, isolated, polluted,…
  • Other resources: breathers, masks,…

SNOMED CT codified value sets are already set.

Other considerations regarding security and architecture for fast solution deployment admit the following functions:

  • Reports.
  • Presentation.
