Conclusions of the working session with the Heads of Information Systems of the SISCAT

Current situation
With a medium level of consensus, the participants agreed that the budget for ICTs is rather poor and that the management requirements have a big impact on the ICT budget. Both systems managers and clinical directors viewed positively the Electronic Clinical Record, although they disagreed when considering the priority of renewal (41 to 35). Finally, in this section the participants agreed that clinicians should be more involved in the design of solutions.

Future vision (2020)
There was broad consensus on the fact that information demands will grow dramatically and thus the information management system will need to evolve. Moreover, the participants in the session agreed that one single interlocutor will help to solve the problem of duplicities in the demand for information and requirements.

Improvement actions
Among the suggested improvements with high priority feature:

1.      Creating an advisory board of CIOs.

2.      Creating a central repository of healthcare information.

3.      Creating a network of clusters of excellence.

4.      Updating the Map of Tendencies.

5.      Management and planning of demand.

Comments
Some of the comments shared by the participants anonymously were:

  • “I liked the innovating format of the session. It makes it more interesting and useful.”
  • “I hope that this impetus for collaboration continues and becomes a new working key.”
  • “The information systems are the driving force for change in the provision of healthcare services. The management of information is crucial, but co-leading these changes with the clinicians is also fundamental.”

Last but not least, 98% of the participants said that they felt satisfied with the participation process conducted during the meeting.
